このホテルでの生活もいよいよ明日で終わりです。約２週間、お世話になりました。夜ごはんは、カップ麺や果物を食べることが多かったのですが、その中でも一番美味しかったのがこれ。中にフォークが入ってます。日本で名前だけ聞いたことのあるグァバ（写真の緑のもの）もここで初めて食べました。味は、洋梨のようで、トマトの風味もあるようで、フトモモ科に属するそうですが、桃とは全く違います。この果物３種類で約８０円。

Our hotel life will be soon over. We've stayed here for more than two weeks. As you know, I often have an instant noodle for dinner, and this one is my favorite so far. A small fork was inside the cup, which I thought was very nice. These fuits were good too. I tried a guava for my first time, and I really liked it. Now it's on my favorite fruits list.

free sweets balls

帰り道、ホテルの近くでお菓子を振る舞う人たちがいて、こんな不思議なお菓子をくれました。ラッドゥーといわれる豆の粉でできた甘い団子だと思われます。なぜ、お菓子を配っていたのかは分かりませんが、食べてしまいました。味は、甘いおかゆのかたまりみたいな感じで、ちょっと微妙でした。

On the way to our hotel, we were given free but mysterious sweet balls. They were giving those sweets away for some reason, but we're not sure why. I ate them, but it was like rice porridge, and unfortunately I am not really fond of the taste.

今日はホームステイ先のお宅でお昼をいただいてきました。スパイスかなり控え目の料理を準備してくださり、胃にやさしい食事でした。帰り道に、野ブタ（？）を発見。きれいなインコのような鳥も見つけました。

The host family prepared me nice less-spicy Indian food. On the way from their house, I found boar-looking animals in a stream. I wonder if they are wild?

All about Vegie!

今日のお昼は、学校の近くの店で「ベジタブル・ドック」を買いました。ホットドックはソーセージですが、これはまた野菜コロッケみたいなものが中に挟んであります。ベジタリアン（肉類は食べない人）たち向けの食事が多く揃っています。味は薄味コロッケパンです。ちゃんとケチャップをつけて食べました。約６０円。

This is a Vegie Dog! Just like a vegie burger, this also has a vegetable croquette inside of the bun. I couldn't find a regular hot dog, so I ended up getting this one, which tasted pretty good. Of course, I put ketchup on it.

fireworks here and there

昨晩、外がにぎやかだと思い屋上に上がると、あちこちで花火が上がっていました。結婚式をしていたのかもしれません。目の前でも花火が上がりました。

Perhaps, they were having a wedding party in the park near our hotel. From the rooftop, I saw many fireworks went off in many differet places in the city.

Recreatin in Park

I went for a walk to a regional park this afternoon. As you know, people here are crazy about cricket. A lot of young men and children play cricket in the park. Only a few kids play soccer. It was a very peaceful time in the park. You can barely see this kind of groups of people in parks in Japan.

午後に近くの公園へ散歩に行きました。ここの人たちはクリケット（イギリスで生まれた野球のようなスポーツ）が大好きです。広い公園のあちこちで若者や子どもがクリケットをしていました。

追伸：今朝屋上に干したジャケットは、誰かが日当たりのいいところに移動してくれていました。おかげで、夕方までには乾いていました。とても有り難いことです。

Sunday routine

今朝は毎日着ている緑のジャケットを洗いました。盗まれたらイヤですが、ホテルの屋上に干しました。明日までには乾くといいのですが・・・。

I washed my green jacket and Giants t-shirt this morning. I put them out on the rooftop of the hotel. Hope they'll dry up soon...

Chow mein for lunch.

We've found a new eatery near the school. Today I had a vegetable chow mein, and it was very good! I'm afraid but I thought it was better than Yuet Lee's! It was perfectly seasoned, not so spicy or oily. And it was less than two bucks!

学校の近くのレストランで中華料理が食べられることを知り、今日は焼きビーフンみたいなものを食べました。脂っこくなく、しかも控え目なカレー味！野菜もたくさん入って、美味しい１２０円。

アンパンマンのリュックを背負う子どもを発見！他にも、ドラゴンボール、ドラえもんなどの絵柄を見たことがあります。みんな、大きなかばんを持って学校へ行っています。

Thursday market

学校の帰り道に出店がたくさん出ていました。野菜、毛糸、雑貨、スパイス、海賊版ＤＶＤ、服、下着、などなど。

Vegetables, spices, knock-off DVDs, clothes, underwears, and many other things are sold on the street.

what can I cook in the room?

残念ながら、ホテルの部屋にはキッチンがありません。湯沸かしポットで熱い湯を用意して、インスタント麺を作るのが精いっぱい。今日試したものは、イタリアン系の味かと思いきや、やはりカレー風味でした。

Unfortunately, we don't have a kitchen in our hotel room, so all I can do for cooking is to make instant noodles. I thought it was an Italian style soup, but again, it was a curry flavour!!

getting good at hand-washing

ホテルで洗濯を頼むこともできますが、もったいないので自分で洗ってます。日本から洗濯板を持ってきて正解でした。今日は、汚れがひどい靴下などに使う洗濯石鹸を購入。アメリカのブランドなので、洗うとアメリカのにおいがします。
I do hand washing my laundry. I'm glad that I brought my washboard, because I find it very handy! I'm using a Tide detergent bar for my dirty socks...

crafts bazaar

We went to a bazaar, which is called 'Dastkari Haat'. There are a lot of neat stores that sell hand-made crafts and dresses from all parts of India. They were performing a nice traditional dance in the market.

インド各地の物品店があつまるイベントに行ってきました。日本でいう全国物産市みたいな感じ。ダンスなどもやってました。シルクのストールなどが２０００円ぐらいで買えます。 日本円で考えると安く感じますが、１０００ルピー（＝２０００円）と聞くと、ここでは高い！と思います。

Go Anime!!

今日はホテルでテレビ漬け。ドラえもん、キテレツ大百科、パーマン、忍者ハットリくん、クレヨンしんちゃん、などなど、なつかしい日本のアニメをやってることを発見。ヒンディー語（もしくは、英語）の吹き替えです。

After lunch at McDonalds's, I watched many Japanese Animes on TV in the hotel room. Unfortunately, most of them are dubbed in Hindi, so I just enjoyed the pictures...

Here is my first Vegi Burger.

I had a McVeggie for lunch today. It has a curry flavor croquette inside, and it wasn't bad at all. The meal is about $2.50. The shopping place I went is actually a movie theatre complex, so I am planning to see a movie there sometime.

今日のお昼はマクドナルドでベジタブルバーガー（肉を使ってない）を食べました。カレー風味のコロッケという感じ。なかなか美味しかったです。値段はセットで２００円ぐらい。ホテルから歩いて２０分ほどの場所にあります。

The store is called 'More'.

学校からの帰り道にスーパーを発見。いつも外食だと出費がかさむので、インスタント麺などを購入。髪の毛バサバサ防止のために、トリートメント。右下のあやしい緑のものは、タイガーバームのインド版、と思われるもの。合計５００円。

I did my first grocery shopping today. I've got some instant noodles, and I am eager to try them! The green fishy-looking bottle is an Indian version of Tiger Balm, which I'm thinking to use to release my shoulder pain. And, I've found some new snacks that I want to try. I need to find a substitute for Reese's candy---

winter clearance in Delhi!

今日も昨日に引き続きずいぶん暖かくなりました。冬もほぼ終わったので、冬物バーゲンがスタート！したそうです。早速、語学学校近くにある巨大ショッピングセンターで買い物。広すぎて回りきれませんでしたが、本日の収穫はこちら。全身で約２２００円。

It has been getting warmer every day since last Tuesday. Spring is just around the corner, and now is the winter clearance time! We went to a big shopping mall, just like Nordstrom or JCPenny, which is a 20-min walk from our language school. This mall is so spacious that we couldn't check everything today. But here is what I got today. As a whole, it was about 25 dollars.

本日よりヒンディー語の授業が始まりました。１０時より、会話。１１時より、発音。昼からの２時間で文字を勉強しました。インド人の先生の英語を聞きとるのに一苦労。いや、大苦戦・・・です。上の写真は学校からの帰り道、ホテル近くの風景。

My Hindi class started today. There are three sections for the class; conversation, pronunciation, and writing, from 10 am to 3 pm. My brain is already about to explode...(The photo above was taken near the hotel.)

Is this called a Kathi?

今日の夕飯です。こちらで新しいものをいろいろ食べますが、一体何がどういう名前で、何が入っているのか、さっぱり分かりません。とりあえず食べ物にありつけて、今日も一安心。これはPaneer Kathiと呼ばれるもの。約240円。玉ねぎ盛りだくさん、スパイス控えめで、おいしかったです。

This is tonight's dinner. We are trying new things everyday, but we are often not sure what our dishes are called or what they are made out of. Anyway, I was relieved that we found a place to eat near the hotel. This is called, 'Paneer Kathi'---cottage cheese cooked with other vegetables and wrapped in rotis. The restaurant ower told me that Kathi rolls are like Frankies; but I don't know what Frankies are...

moved to a new hotel

今日は語学学校に近いホテルに移動。ここも前回と同じように清潔感たっぷり。部屋は前回より狭いですが、問題なさそうです。

Today we moved to another hotel, which is closer to the Hindi language school. Very nice and clean. The room is a bit smaller than the previous one, but I am happy with this so far.

The street is jam-packed with people!

インドの通りは、日本のデパ地下よりすごいです。

I bet this is far worse than the Galleria at Christmas time.

Lal Qila

ムガル帝国の皇帝がアグラからデリーに都をもどして、新たに築いた城。大阪城とは比べものにならないくらいだだっ広い。下のリンクから写真を見てください。

Lunch at Moti Mahal

今日も無事にお昼ご飯を食べることができました。一人約６００円と高く感じましたが、美味しかったので大満足。

This is today's lunch. We paid about 10 bucks for this meal, which I think is not very cheap by Indian standards, but we found it tasty and we were very happy. Indian food has never failed us so far!

Pizza in India

インドに来ていて、ピザは無いだろうと言われそうですが、インド３日目にして２度目のピザ。そのお味はというと、冷凍ではないと思いますが・・・ぐらいです。

This is my second pizza in India. Sorry, but it failed to be on my favorite pizza list...

cold and foggy

今日は遅めに起きて、ニューデリー駅の近くに行きました。霧なのか、砂ホコリなのか、 視界が悪いです。大阪ほど寒くないと思いますが、肌寒く感じました。

We slept in this morning, and went to near the New Delhi railway station. It's foggy, sooty, and dusky. Not as cold as Osaka, but it's a bit colder than I'd expected.

Drive with Grace?

ここで道を渡るのは命がけです。道を渡る際は、心を無にするか、必ずインド人の横についてなければなりません。

Crossing streets in this city is a life-threatening experience. You have to be a Zen master, or be always beside an Indian man when you go across the street.

普通のトイレですが、左横に小さなシャワーがついてます。水でお尻を洗うためのものだと思われます。





Shower with a 'sun flower' like huge shower. I was very relieved that we have hot water!

シャワーの上にもう一つヒマワリのような大きなシャワー。お湯が出るのでひとまず安心。

Our hotel in Delhi---nice and modest hotel, I think. We will be here till 11th. After that, we'll move to another hotel, which is closer to the Hindi language school.

私たちの泊まるホテル。いい感じです。１１日まではとりあえずここにいます。それ以後は、語学学校の近くのホテルに移ります。

Our first visit of the year to a shrine.

久方ぶりに石切神社を参拝しました。前回はいつだったか記憶にありませんが、おばあちゃんと一緒に行ったときのことを思い出し、懐かしく感じました。

It's been awhile since the last time we visited this 'Ishikiri Shrine'. We used to come once a year when my grandmother was still alive.

The weather in India is a little warmer than Osaka. But I heard that the temperature will go up very quickly in February.
