ただいま、Durga Pujaというインドのお祭りの真っ最中。今日は、近所にあるお寺へ行ってきました。このヒンドゥー教のドゥルガーさま、迫力があって、好きです。インド人に交じり、私もお祈りしてきました。お祭り最終日の明日は祝日でお休みです。西ベンガルの方では、１か月丸々休みになるほど、盛大に祝われています。

The Indian festive season has begun. Durga Puja is one of the major festivals celebrated in India. Today I went for a walk and visited this temple near my house. I like this powerful-and-strong looking Hindu goddess Durga. I think she's very cool. Tomorrow is the last day of the festival, and it's a holiday. Yay!

the plot thickens

時間はどんどん過ぎていきます。インドへ来て早くも９か月です。信じられないほどのスピードです。ちょうど去年の今頃、退職したということになります。ついこの前のような気がします。（鳥肌・・・）

Time does fly. It's been already 9 months since I came to India. Whoa. Last September I quit my teaching job in Osaka. It feels like it happened very recently.

今日は久しぶりに韓国料理を食べました。My friends and I went to a Korean restaurant today. It was pretty tasty. Glad that it wasn't that spicy.

From Bollywood musical to Anime

最近、こちらのブログの更新はサボリ気味です。まとめて、８月末から今までの写真とともに振り返りたいと思います。

I've realized that I'm not good at keeping this blog updated...Here are what's been happening here since the end of August.

これは、先週の土曜日（９月１０日）に行ったアニメコンベンションです。インドでのアニメ・漫画普及率は、「まだまだまだ」です。でも、これから、人気がもっと上がると思います・・・（が、どうでしょうか？）アニメや漫画をきっかけにして、日本に興味を持ってくれる人が少しでも増えれば、と思います。

Anime Convention was held in Delhi last week. I went there with my friends and had a good time. Surprisingly, anime and manga here are not as popular as in other Asian countries. I hope more people will find it interesting in the future.

たまには、贅沢にホテルでバイキング！ウェスティンホテルでランチを食べました。その時に、見つけた「ウェスティン・オート」です。ホテルで働いていた時のように、今でもホテルに行くと、うれしくなります。

One of my friends and I went to Westin hotel to have a luxurious lunch buffet the other day. It was very nice. I still get excited whenever I go to a hotel---it's just like when I used to work in hotel years back.

デリーからメトロで行けるグルガオンというところに、生ボリウッドダンスの見られる娯楽施設があります。友人とともに、８月末に行ってきました。
This is the place we watched a live Bollywood musical show. It was so much fun. I would definitely go back there when I get a chance!

インド各州のご飯も食べられ、半日遊べる施設が隣接しています。激しいダンスを生で見たい人は、ぜひぜひ！

Next to the musical venue, there is a place you can eat food from all over India. We had tasty shrimp dishes from Kerala state!

a day trip to Agra

先週の水曜日、日本から来た友人とともにアグラへ行ってきました。アグラと言ってもピンと来ないかもしれませんが、あの有名なタージ・マハルがある町です。デリーから列車で３時間半なので、日帰りで行くことができます。列車を翌日で予約してしまうという大失敗をしてしまいましたが、当日券を買い、なんとか到着。駅で、オートリキシャ１日貸し切りツアーに申し込み、タージ・マハル、アグラ城などを回りました。建物のあちこちにある彫刻がとても印象的でした。（写真はここをクリックしてください。）

Last Wednesday, I went to Agra with a friend of mine from Japan. Agra is located on the banks of the river Yamuna. It's only three and a half hours away by train from Delhi. We hired an auto rickshaw and saw every parts of the city. All the Mughal-era buildings are gorgeous and splendid! I especially like their special inlay works on marble. (Click here for photos)

Varanasi weekend

またまた前回から間があいてしまいました。授業が始まり、その準備に追われる毎日です。その合間を縫い、日本から友人が遊びに来てくれたので、週末を利用し、バラナシ（バナーラス）へ行ってきました。インドといえば、ガンジス河で沐浴するヒンズー教徒の人の姿。それが見られるのがここです。列車で約１２時間です。夕方デリーを出て、朝には向こうに着きました。雨期ということで、雨かくもりだろうと思っていたら、大間違い。ひどい暑さでした。どこも、人、人、牛、湿気、バイク、ほこり、そして・・・日本語が上手なあやしいインド人だらけ。でも、聖河ガンジス河で沐浴する人、町のあちらこちらに小さなお寺があり、熱気に包まれた歴史ある神聖な町でした。今回は一泊しかできませんでしたが、今度はもう少しゆっくりしたいと思います。雨期ということもあり、水かさが多かったので、ボートにも乗らなかったので、次回こそ！（写真はこちらから見てください。）

Again, it's been awhile since the last update. It's been very hectic since new semester began. Last week, a friend of mine visited me from Japan, and we went to a place called Varanasi, which is located on the banks of the River Ganges. It's one of the oldest towns in India and is known as a holly city. Everywhere you see people, people and people! And a lot of annoying barkers who are fluent in Japanese. I felt a bit tired of being followed by those talkative Indians. But, apart from the drag, you can feel the vibe of Hindu people and Hinduism. I couldn't stay longer because I had to come back to Delhi for work, but next time I will definitely spend more time there. (Here are photos.)

Independence Day weekend

前回書いてからしばらく時間があいてしまいました。旅行から帰って来てから、目の具合が悪くなったり、新学期が始まったりでバタバタしてしまいました。ありがたいことに、今週末は月曜日がインドの独立記念日（１９４７年にイギリスから独立）なので、日曜日の今日もゆっくりできました。久しぶりに今日の晩ごはんの写真を載せます。から揚げですが、ちょっとネギしょうゆのたれをつけてみました。サツマイモを見つけたので、みそ汁に入れました。こちらにいると、季節感が全然ありませんが、サツマイモを食べて、ちょっと秋が近づいたような気がしました。

It's been awhile since I had the last post. After I came back from the trip, I've been having hectic days; got my left eye infected and new semester started, etc. Thankfully, I get three days off this weekend, since Monday is the Independence Day of India. Today I spent my time doing some work for class, and tried new recipe for chicken. I found Japanese sweet potatoes, so I put it in my miso soup. It was quite tasty.
