We send our love to Japan!

今日は、鶴を折って日本へ送りたいことを伝えたら、みんな一生懸命に作ってくれました。メッセージも自分たちで考えて書きました。写真を現像してから、今週中にそちらに送ります。

Today I told everyone that I had a plan of making paper cranes and sending them to Japan with a message card. They were very happy to help me on this idea, and they've made this nice message card. I am going to send it with the photo to my aunt and her family are in Sendai.

Gingers rule!

今日の夕飯は、豚肉のしょうが焼きとチンゲン菜の炒めものです。インド料理が続くと、ショウガの味やしょうゆの味が恋しくなります。有り難いことに、デリーでは高いですがお肉も手に入ります。食材は色々あるので、何が作れるかは私の腕次第ということになります・・・

I made ginger pork and stirred fried baby bok-choy. You can find almost everything in Delhi, even a pack of sliced pork. I was very surprised to find bok-choy, which was hiding in the corner of a small shop on the street.

Summer has come!

今日はロディガーデンという公園へ行きました。花や木がたくさんある公園を散歩すると、やはりとても気持ちがいいです。気温は３０度ぐらいまで上がっていますが、木陰はまだ涼しく、本格的な夏が始まる前にここに来ることができてよかったです。

I went to a famous park in Delhi, called 'Lodhi Garden'. Walking in a park which has a lot of tall trees and flowers feels really good. The temperature is already over 90 degrees, but it still feels nice in the shade. I always waned to come here, so I am glad I came before real summer begins...

getting hot in here..

My little friends come to my house almost everyday now...They get wild, loud and uncontrollable sometimes, but most of the time, I have lots of fun with them.

ほぼ毎日、近所の子どもたちが我が家に集まり、折り紙をするようになりました。人数もずいぶん増え、にぎやかになりました。手に負えない状態になることもありますが、わいわい楽しくやっています。

今日はホリーというお祭りでした。色のついた水や粉をお互いかけ合い、春の訪れを祝います。参加したい気持ち半分、一度服についたら取れないという色水が怖かったので、家の中で外の様子をうかがうだけでした。実は近所の子どもが誘いに家まで来てくれたみたいなのですが、ノックに気づきませんでした。来年こそは！

ちょっと仕事で忙しいときは、近所で「モモ」という蒸し餃子を買ってきて、あとはみそ汁、ご飯、サラダなどを作って、食べています。このモモちゃん、２食分で４０円。

When I don't have time to cook, I get this Tibetan dumplings, which are just like steamed gyoza, from a small restaurant in the neighborhood. This dish is called, 'Momo'. What a cute name...

after the earthquake

今回の地震の被害は本当にひどく、目を覆いたくなる光景ばかりです。１人でも多くの人が助かるよう、復旧作業が順調に進むようにと祈るばかりです。地震発生から、大学の先生、学生だけでなく、近所の方たちも日本のことを心配をし、励ましの言葉を私にかけてくださいました。

今回の地震がきっかけにもなり、以前より近所の方たちと話す機会が増えたと思います。通りがかりの子どもたちが、日本の家族はどうなのかと心配してくれることもありました。

子どもたちと話すことも多くなり、いつの間にか、みんなで折り紙を折るようになりました！暗いニュースの続く中、明るいインドの子どもたちに元気を分けてもらっています。

After the earthquake, I have more chances to talk with my neighbors, especially young children. They kindly asked me if my family in Japan was okay. This is such a difficult time for Japan, but my little Indian friends give me a lift. They come to my house almost everyday, and we do origami together!

my first mehndi experience

I always wanted to try this skin decoration, but never had until this new young friend of mine came to my house this afternoon, and told me that she could do it for me. Isn't this very cool? You have to wait for a couple hours to dry it out and then take all the henna out from the skin. She told me it looked very good on me because of the colour of my skin.

日本でもインド人がやっているのが見たことがあり、インドに行ったらやってみたいと思っていたメヘンディ（植物染料へナで色々な模様を描きます）。今日は、近所の女の子が家に来て、メヘンディしたいと言ったので、思わぬ形で初体験です。２時間ほど待ってから洗い流すと、鮮やかなオレンジ色の模様が浮かび上がりました。
